Negara Halus (roughly translated to “Soft Country” in English) was born out of the idea to change the way that queer Indonesians are represented. Too often in the news and media there are only accounts of violence and hate, summarized succinctly into bleak statistics. Negara Halus aims to be a personal, gentle online space, soft, as the name implies. The existence of queer Indonesians is important and multidimensional; It should be explored, not buried.
